# Privacy

****Field Survey**** is a free, open-source (****FOSS****) field data-collection app. Your
privacy is respected by design: the app is built to keep your data on your own
device.


## Data we collect {#data-we-collect}

**None.** Field Survey does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal
data. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.
The developer has no server that receives your data.


## Where your data lives {#where-your-data-lives}

All the data you create --- survey templates, records, entries, locations, and
links to photos --- is stored **locally on your device**. It is never uploaded to
the developer or any third-party cloud. You remain in full control of it and can
export or delete it at any time.


## Device permissions {#device-permissions}

-   **Location** --- used only to show your current position on the map and to
    record coordinates you choose to save. Location data stays on your device.
-   **Camera** --- used only to take photos you attach to a record.
-   **Photo Library** --- used only to reference photos you select and to save
    exported files. Field Survey references your existing library photos; it does
    not upload them anywhere.

Permissions are requested only when you use the related feature, and only the
minimum needed.


## Network connections {#network-connections}

Field Survey works offline. It contacts the network only when you actively:

-   **View a map** --- map tiles are requested from a third-party map-tile provider
    to display the map. Such requests necessarily reveal your device's IP address
    to that provider, as with any web request. No account or personal data is sent.
-   **Import a template from a URL** --- the app fetches the template file from the
    address you provide. That server sees a standard download request.

These requests are used only to serve your action in real time and are not
collected or retained by the developer.


## Children's privacy {#children-s-privacy}

Field Survey does not collect any personal information from anyone, including
children.


## Changes to this policy {#changes-to-this-policy}

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new
"last updated" date.
